Teresa Hubbard / Alexander Birchler are among the most important contemporary artists working with film and new media. Hubbard / Birchler reframe, from a feminist perspective, the history of an unknown American artist, Flora Mayo, who was Alberto Giacometti's lover during the 1920s. As part of Hubbard / Birchler's film and sculpture installation, the Fondation Giacometti, Paris, granted the artists unprecedented access to film Giacometti's Head of a Woman (Flora Mayo). This richly illustrated book contextualizes the installations Flora and Bust, and reveals a particular period in Giacometti's life through a selection of his previously unseen sculptures and drawings from the 1920's.
