Laugh Your Craft Off is a series of virtual craft workshops where you can make things with artists while comedians tell jokes. We’ve paired up artists and crafters with comedians to take your grandma's craft circle to a whole new level. Your grandma never crafted on Zoom anyway. (But she would love it, you should invite her.) There will be laughs, there will be crafts, so grab yourself a drink and come hangout with us (virtually)!

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

In this Laugh Your Craft Off workshop, embroidery artist Steffie Notion of A Subtle Notion will provide each guest with the necessary skills to stitch up a cute little booty of their own! You will learn 3 basic embroidery stitches as well as the techniques and skills needed to design, prepare, sew and finish a hand embroidered art piece of your own. For those who are familiar with hand embroidery, you will learn more about creating your own designs and transferring those designs to fabric.

Suggested materials include:

  • 5" embroidery hoop
  • 7" circle of fabric (Steffie usually goes with subtle florals but a solid color or even white is fine also)
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Embroidery floss
  • Pencil
  • Fabric glue
  • Pre-printed templates (we will email this to you!)

Want to up your crafting game? Purchase a craft kit from MCA Denver to receive all of the materials needed to embroider the booty of your dreams! Make sure to select the "Plus Craft Kit" under "Ticket Options" above. Choose whether you'd like your craft kit shipped or to pick it up at the museum at checkout. MUST PURCHASE BY MAY 19 FOR SHIPPING. Pickup is available a week before the event, May 20-26.

    ABOUT THE ARTIST

Steffie Notion (she/her/hers) was originally taught to sew clothing on a machine by her mother when she was 8 years old and has been making or crafting in one way or another since then. In 2018 she branched out into hand embroidery and discovered the subtle beauty found in the human form. Like most body owning humans today, learning to love herself and her "meat suit" has been a lifelong process. She hopes to extend the message of "All Bodies are Beautiful" through her embroideries and by turning other's selfies and photos into unique art pieces. Over the years her work has evolved into multi-media embroideries and appliques depicting the human body in all shapes and states of being. She continues to seek out ways to elevate the skill of hand embroidery from "women's work" to "Fine Art" alongside helping others to find the individual beauty contained in their own body.

    ABOUT THE COMEDIAN

BK Sharad is an up-and-coming comedian from Boulder, Colorado. You of course know him from his work as Jay Chandrasekhar’s body double in an as-of-yet unaired TV Pilot, but he is also making a name for himself in standup. He has been selected for a dozen festivals across the country including the High Plains Comedy Festival, Cloudtop Comedy Festival, and the Burning Bridges Comedy Festival all in just the last year. His positive outlook shines through his jokes about the world and his experiences in it as a former emo, hockey playing, first generation, Indian millennial.
