Guillermo Kuitca: Diarios is an exhibition of Argentine artist Guillermo Kuitca’s Diarios, an independent body of work that allows Kuitca to introduce the process of drawing and writing to his painted canvases. For the Diarios, Kuitca takes discarded canvases, stretches them over a table that belonged to his parents, and then spends long periods of time marking their surfaces with intentional and accidental doodles, drawings, and notations.
In conjunction with the first exhibition in the United States of this series of works, Drawing Papers 100 features nineteen color plates of works made between 2005 and 2012. The volume also includes illuminating texts, including an essay by German novelist Daniel Kehlmann likening Kuitca’s Diarios to “a special kind of map: panels, tabletops on which idea and form, accident and plan, everyday and artistic reality—in short, life and work—achieve a remarkable, ambiguous balance.
